Conor McGregor has paid tribute to those who have lost their lives to coronavirus.
The UFC star was reacting to the latest shocking figures on Thursday night which revealed ten more people have died from Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland.
He posted on Twitter: "More than double our deaths in one day.
"It’s on now, men and women.
"Stay vigilant. Stay distant. Stay active.
"Keep your immune system healthy and strong in every possible way you can!
"Shame on the wreckless.
"RIP those we have lost to date and God speed to us all!
"Éire Abú!!!"
McGregor revealed on Wednesday that he was donating €1million to buy protective equipment to be used in hospitals.
In a reply to a Twitter message from Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe, the Dubliner said: : “I have used my platforms multiple times since this has began.
“I went further and made the video. Today I am purchasing myself, €1 million euro worth of personal protective equipment to be deployed to all the fighting hospitals in the Leinster region.
“Our most affected region, to this date. St. James, Mater, Tallaght. Beaumont. Vincent’s. Where would we be without these brave men and women, I do not know.”
19 people have now died from coronavirus in the Republic, with a further 255 new confirmed cases of the virus also announced on Thursday. There are now 1,819 cases in the country so far.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said as cases grow they expect the deaths to grow and we are only at the beginning.
Dr. Tony Holohan said: “We are only at the beginning of the curve. We need every citizen to heed the advice and measures put in place to protect all of us.”
The death toll in Northern Ireland now also stands at 10 with 29 deaths in the island of Ireland.
