Coronavirus Ireland: Conor McGregor blasts new Covid-19 restrictions as he calls for 'same standards for all'

Conor McGregor has blasted the government after new Covid-19 restrictions were rolled out last night.

The retired UFC star took to social media to protest the new protocols to battle the virus, claiming that some industries are hit harder by the move.

As part of the strict new guidelines, sports events will be held behind closed doors, over 70's are advised to limit interactions, while home visits will be limited to six people.

But the Crumlin man claims that Micheal Martin's government need a clearer direction as he called for 'the same standards for all' to be implemented.

In a direct message to the government, McGregor tweeted: "We are in need of clear direction. Random industries are singled out, random jobs are impacted. It is time for the same standards for all."

It comes after McGregor sent Taoiseach Micheal Martin a message over rules regarding pubs last week.

Under government guidelines since June, only pubs serving food are allowed to open their doors in the Republic of Ireland - something the former two-weight UFC champion appears to have a problem with.

He tweeted to the Taoiseach on Saturday morning: "In Ireland, pubs that serve food and drinks can open.

"But pubs that just serve drinks can not.

"Food does not make us safer, responsible citizens do."
