Coronavirus Ireland: Confirmed case among Irish Times staff as newspaper offices to close for two days

A member of staff at the Irish Times has tested positive for coronavirus.

The newspaper's offices on Tara Street in Dublin will be closed for 48 hours as a precaution following the news, as management said it will be monitoring the situation.

The HSE has started to contact people who may have been in close contact with the affected staff member.

Staff will work from home in the meantime.

RTE reports that in a memo sent around to staff tonight, bosses said: "As a precaution and in line with our business continuity plan, the Irish Times building on Tara Street will close for the next 48 hours or until such other time as advised by the HSE."

The firm's Director of Human Resources added: "We learned this evening that a colleague based in Tara Street has tested positive for Covid-19 (coronavirus).

"The staff member who tested positive has been in contact with the HSE and is currently in self-isolation, in line with HSE advice."

The Irish Times management added that while workers were its top priority, it was looking to "minimise disruption to our readers, in print and online, and our customers".
