Coronavirus Ireland: Clusters of COVID-19 outbreaks found in Irish pub and 22 nursing homes

Clusters of COVID-19 outbreaks have been reported in an Irish pub as well as 22 nursing homes around the country - 20 of which are in the east of the country - according to latest HSE anaylsis.

HSE's Health Protection Surveillance released the new statistics just one day after 10 more people died in Ireland bringing the death toll in the Republic to 46.

The new report also outlines that of those confirmed dead from coronavirus by midnight on Friday, one person was aged between 25-34.

A further 200 confirmed cases yesterday of the killer bug brings the number of positive patients in Ireland to 2,615.

The latest figures, which are updated to as far as last Friday, shows outbreaks at 20 east located nursing homes with two more in the north-east bringing the total to 22.

The number of hospital outbreaks has also jumped and now stands at 19 with 12 in the east of the country while outbreaks in private houses more than doubling from 10 to 22.

The first recorded COVID-19 clusters have also been reported in a pub and hotel both of which are situated in the south of the country.

Of the 43 patients who had died by midnight on Friday, one of the victims was in the 25-34 age bracket, one each in the 35-44 and 45-54 age bracket, two in the 55-64 category and the rest aged 65 or older.
