Coronavirus Ireland: Clubs offer support to Lee Duffy after footballer was left unable to breathe

Lee Duffy's former clubs have offered their support to the 28-year-old after he revealed his battle with Covid-19.

Duffy used social media to warn people that the virus must be taken seriously after it left him unable to breathe.

"As some of you may or may not know, I tested positive for Covid-19 two weeks ago," he tweeted:

"I spent 8 days in hospital hooked up to oxygen as I could no longer breathe on my own, scared not knowing what was going to happen.

"Luckily I got through it and I’m starting to feel a lot better now.

"My advice to everybody is to not take this lightly, it is very serious."

The striker has represented four League of Ireland clubs and two Northern Irish Football League teams.

His most recent club, Newry City AFC, tweeted: "All at Newry City AFC would like to wish former player Lee Duffy all the best in his recovery from COVID-19.

"Lee spoke out to highlight the fact that this virus could hit anyone & we all need to play our part in stopping it. #StayHome"

League of Ireland giants Shelbourne - who Duffy played for in 2014 - stated: "Wishing a speedy recovery and best wishes to former player @LeeDuffy7.

"His story shows that COVID-19 coronavirus can affect anyone for all walks of life. We continue to urge everyone to follow @HSELive advice in this regard."

Drogheda United tweeted: "All at Drogheda United would like to wish our former player Lee Duffy all the best after he was tested positive for COVD-19 two weeks ago.

"Thankfully Lee is feeling much better now. We're all behind you."

Wexford FC also offered support, saying: "All at the club send our very best wishes to @LeeDuffy7. Best of luck with the recovery Lee"
