Coronavirus Ireland cases update today as 1,269 confirmed with 13 deaths amid preparations for Level Five lockdown

There have been 1,269 more coronavirus cases confirmed in Ireland, with a further 13 deaths.

The latest update from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) is in.

All of the deaths are recent.

There are still 34 people in intensive care units (ICUs) across the country.

As of 2pm today, 312 Covid-19 patients are hospitalised, with 13 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

Of the cases notified today;

  • 657 are men / 609 are women

  • 63% are under 45 years of age

  • The median age is 34 years old

  • 221 in Meath, 203 in Dublin, 116 in Cork, 80 in Cavan and the remaining 649 cases are spread across all remaining counties.

There have been 52,256 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ireland. Validation resulted in the denotification of six cases overnight and the new figure reflects that.

There has now been a total of 1,865 Covid-19 related deaths in Ireland.

The new figures come amid preparations for a Level Five lockdown, with some changes, on Wednesday night.

On Monday, ministers agreed to impose the highest level of restrictions under the Government's five-tier plan from midnight on Wednesday for six weeks in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Under the new restrictions, people will be limited to 5km of non-essential travel, but schools and creches will remain open.

No social or family gatherings will be allowed in homes or gardens, but visits on compassionate grounds and for caring purposes can continue.

Attendance at weddings will be maintained at 25 guests.

Restaurants, cafes and bars will be permitted to provide takeaway services only.

Only essential retail may remain open.
