Three more people have died from the coronavirus in Ireland in the last 24 hours with a further 13 cases confirmed.
The figures were announced by the Department of Health this evening via a press release.
There have now been a total 1,705 COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland.
There is now a total of 25,250 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.
Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said; “The COVID-19 virus will continue to impact on the way we move about our daily lives for the foreseeable future, however we have already witnessed how our collective action can control the spread of the virus.
"By continuing to work together, implementing our new behaviours, we can continue to limit the spread of the disease.”
Earlier today, Dr Tony Holohan said the country knows a lot more about Covid-19 than it did in March when lockdown measures and restrictions were first introduced.
He said if there was a second wave or resurgence of the disease, the same measures would not need to be taken.
"I wouldn't be anticipating at this point in time that we would be moving back to blanket closures in the way we did in March," he said.
