Coronavirus Ireland cases: Three more deaths recorded as 10 new infections announced

There have been three new deaths linked to the coronavirus in the Republic of Ireland.

It comes as 10 more confirmed cases have been announced by the Department of Health.

There have now been a total of 1,720 deaths here associated with the bug.

The total number of infections now stands at 25,391.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: “While we now have a robust testing system in place.

"The success of this system is dependent on people isolating and coming forward to their GP as soon as they experience symptoms.

"Cough, fever, shortness of breath, change in smell or taste, flu like symptoms should be treated as COVID-19 until a GP assessment or test deems otherwise.

"If you are experiencing these symptoms, do not go to work or socialise. Self isolate in your household and contact your GP by phone without delay."

There have been 404,989 tests carried out since the outbreak began.

Just 0.5% of the 18,386 people tested in Ireland over the past seven days were diagnosed with the virus.

The HSE said it is working to identify any contacts the patients may have had to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread.

Earlier on Tuesday, health officials in Northern Ireland reported one further Covid-19 related death.

According to their most recent dashboard update, there have been no further confirmed cases of the virus in the last 24 hour reporting period.

The death toll there stands at 546 and the total number of confirmed cases of virus in the North remains 4,871.
