Eight more people have died from coronavirus in Ireland in the last 24 hours with eight more cases confirmed.
The news was announced at a Department of Health Briefing headed by Dr Tony Holohan this afternoon.
The National Public Health Emergency Team met today to continue its review of Ireland’s response and preparedness to COVID-19.
Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said; “NPHET has recommended the development and implementation of a national communications campaign to increase compliance with current recommendations on the use of face-coverings.
"The campaign will outline best practice for use of face coverings in retail outlets, on public transport and in other public locations, where it may be difficult to maintain social distancing.”
Earlier today Leo Varadkar said "our plan is working and we should stick to it".
The Taoiseach was speaking in the Dáil this afternoon where he gave an upbeat and “optimistic, but cautious” update on the progress of the roadmap out of lockdown.
He said that “the last couple of days have been encouraging” as new coronavirus case numbers continue to fall consistently.

There were five new deaths and nineteen new cases reported by the Department of Health on Wednesday night.
And Mr Varadkar confirmed that with the numbers going in the right direction the country is on track to come out of lockdown a month early in July instead of August.
He told the Dáil today: “We are still in the early stages, so it’s too early to evaluate how Phase 2+ is going, but the early indications are favourable.
