Coronavirus Ireland: British roadmap to exit lockdown in full as Boris Johnson says 'the end is in sight'

Boris Johnson has said that the British people will return to beer gardens in April and nightclubs in June as the unveiled the UK's roadmap to normality.

The Brits are coming out of their third COVID lockdown - but it appears that will be their last, with Johnson adding 'the end is in sight.'

Schools will reopen on March 8 - with beer gardens and hairdressers following on April 12.

The four-stage plan, unveiled by Boris in the House of Commons this afternoon, is not 'set in stone' according to the PM.

But there are a number of key dates for British people to look forward to - and for Irish people to stare jealously at.

April 12: Non-essential retail, hairdressers, nail salons, gyms and outdoor areas in hospitality venues (such as beer gardens) set to reopen - along with libraries, museums, zoos and theme parks.

May 17: Pubs, restaurants, cinemas, hotels and B&B's can open their doors once more. Fans will be allowed back into sporting events. Most rules on social contact outdoors will be lifted, while mixing of different households will be allowed indoors. Up to 30 people will be allowed at weddings, funerals, wakes, receptions and christenings

June 21: All legal limits on social contact set to be removed, along with the remaining sectors of the economy being reopened.

So far, the UK have vaccinated more than 17 and a half million people.

And this was one of the key factors for Johnson when setting out this map.

"We are able to take these steps because of the resolve of the British people and the extraordinary success of our NHS in vaccinating more than 17.5 million people across the UK.'' the PM said.

"I know there will be many people who will be worried that we are being too ambitious and that it is arrogant to impose any kind of plan on a virus.

"I agree that we must always be humble in the face of nature. Many will believe that we could go faster".

"Today the end really is in sight."
