Coronavirus deaths in the Republic of Ireland have surged by 10 in the last 24 hours with the figure now standing at 19.
The median age of the victims who have sadly died from Covid-19 is 79.
Of the 10 new deaths, 9 patients are in the east of the country and one is in the south of the country.
Some 68% of those that have died are male and 32% are female.
A further 255 new confirmed cases of the virus were also announced on Thursday evening with 1,819 cases in the Republic so far.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said as cases grow they expect the deaths to grow and we are only at the beginning.
Dr. Tony Holohan said: “We are only at the beginning of the curve. We need every citizen to heed the advice and measures put in place to protect all of us.”
The death toll in Northern Ireland now also stands at 10 with 29 deaths in the island of Ireland.
