Coronavirus Ireland: A third of passengers flying into Dublin Airport fail to give quarantine address

Hundreds of passengers who have flown through Dublin Airport in the last six days have failed to provide details of where they would be self-isolating.

Travellers arriving to the airport are currently asked to complete a passenger location form which includes details of where they will be quarantining for two weeks.

But over 600 people - a third of passengers - either failed to provide an address or gave details that are too vague for authorities to locate them, reports the Irish Independent.

It is not mandatory to complete the form and it is not underpinned by legislation.

Fianna Fail Transport Spokesperson Marc MacSharry has called for officials to be given more powers to ensure the form is completed correctly.

He said: "When there are encouraging signs and progress being made following the sacrifice people have made over the last couple of months, we don’t want that jeopardised by people coming in.

"It is vitally important that, if people are coming in, they are given the appropriate information and they making the are declarations as to where they will self-isolate and so on so that if we begin to have another increase and another spike, the contact tracing can be dealt with very quickly."

He added that there is a gap in resources available to airport officials.

"If people are refusing, or through wilful neglect, not making the appropriate declarations that they need to, it is certainly something we will raise with the Minister for Transport and if there are additional powers needed for these people then I would certainly be pushing for that to happen."

The Government is considering making it mandatory that passengers complete the form and self-isolate for two weeks after they enter the country.
