Coronavirus Ireland: 788 new cases and 17 deaths confirmed

Health officials have confirmed that a further 17 people have sadly died from COVID-19 in Ireland.

An additional 788 cases of the virus have also been announced this evening.

Of the cases announced today, 315 are in Dublin.

The death toll from the deadly bug now stands at 3,948 while there have been 209,582 confirmed infections since the pandemic began last year.

Of the deaths announced this evening, 15 occurred in February, one in December while another remains under investigation.

The median age of those who died was 80-years-old and the age range was 50 to 92-years-old.

As of 8am today, there are 899 COVID-19 patients in hospital, with 160 are in ICU.

There have been 34 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

There have been a total of 261,073 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in Ireland as of February.

Of these, 171,239 have received their first dose while 89,834 have received their second dose.

Of the cases notified today:

  • 409 are men / 371 are women
  • 71% are under 45 years of age
  • The median age is 31 years old
  • 315 in Dublin, 61 in Galway, 59 in Meath, 42 in Louth, 33 in Kildare and the remaining 278 cases are spread across all other counties
