Coronavirus Ireland: 200 allowed to attend sporting events in stadiums that hold 5,000

Up to 200 people will be allowed to attend outdoor sporting events in stadiums that have a capacity of 5,000, the government has announced.

Under the government's plan in Level 2, up to 100 spectators will be allowed at outdoors sporting events and 50 at indoor ones.

The outdoor figure will rise to 200 if a stadium's capacity is more than 5,000.

The news comes ahead of the resumption of inter-county GAA next month, while the League of Ireland will be played to a conclusion over the coming weeks.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin stated that Dublin could move to Level 3 if the virus is not controlled in the county.

That would result is sporting events returning to behind closed doors, while games outwith professional, elite and inter-county and senior club GAA would not be permitted.
