Coronavirus infection rates rise in all areas of Greater Manchester as Omicron variant spreads

Coronavirus infection rates have gone up in all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester.

Trafford continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester.

The borough recorded a rate of 570.8 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending December 6, according to the latest data from the UK Health Security Agency.

The lowest infection rate is in Bolton, where the rate is 339.6 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 431.4 cases per 100,000 population. The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 506.9 cases per 100,000 people.

The infection rate is higher than the national average one area of Greater Manchester. It is lower than the national average in 9 areas.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on December 05, a total of 204 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 14 more than the week before, a rise of 7%.

On Tuesday December 07, there were 35 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is the same as a week earlier.

This is the most recent available data for hospital admissions, the figures for NHS trusts are not updated daily.

Deaths

In the week ending December 6, a total of 34 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 11 fewer than the week before.

The trend is up in Tameside , where the latest infection rate in Tameside is 410.8 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Stockport's latest infection rate is 475.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Bolton's latest infection rate is now 339.6 cases per 100,000 people.

In Rochdale , the latest infection rate is 480.6 cases per 100,000 people.

In Manchester , the infection rate at 383.6 cases per 100,000 population.

Salford's most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 446.9 cases per 100,000 people.

Wigan's infection rate is now 433.0 cases per 100,000 population.

Bury's latest infection rate is 493.4 cases per 100,000 people.

Oldham's latest infection rate here is 342.1 cases per 100,000 people.

In Trafford , the infection rate is 570.8.
