Coronavirus infection rates lower than national average in all boroughs

Coronavirus infection rates in Greater Manchester are continuing to fall and are now below the national average according to the latest available figures. Stockport continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in the region. It saw its rate go down by 34 percent, in the last seven days, That was the joint highest drop in cases along with Trafford and Bury.

And its recorded a rate of 174.7 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending April 25, the rate there and is now below the England average of 176.8, according to the latest data from the UK Health Security Agency.

The borough with the lowest decline was Rochdale, where cases are down 13 percent. The lowest infection rate is in Manchester, where the rate is 126.7 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 4,232 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on April 25. The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 1549 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 27 percent in the last week. In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 149.2 cases per 100,000 population.

Hospital ad missions

A total of 422 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19 in the week ending on April 24. That is 270 fewer than the week before, a fall of 178 percent.

On Tuesday, April 26, there were 17 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is two fewer than a week earlier.

This is the most recent available data for hospital admissions, the figures for NHS trusts are not updated daily.

Deaths

In the week ending April 25, a total of 52 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 16 fewer than the week before.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 986,858 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 9,197 deaths.

Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs

Rochdale


Rochdale saw a total of 326 cases in the week ending April 25, which is 48 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 13 percent.

In Rochdale, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 145.8 cases per 100,000 people.


Wigan


There were 552 positive tests over the last week in Wigan, which is 174 fewer than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Wigan is down by 24 per cent and the latest infection rate is 166.9 cases per 100,000 people.


Oldham


Oldham is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 133.8 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 318 cases recorded in Oldham, which is 73 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 19 per cent.


Bury

The trend is down in Bury, where there were 284 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 25, which is 145 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 34 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Bury is 148.9 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.


Salford



Salford recorded 401 coronavirus cases, which is 148 fewer than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Salford is 152.6 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 27 per cent week-on-week.


Manchester


Manchester, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 704 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 25, which is 274 fewer than the previous 7 days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Manchester is now 126.7 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 28 percent week-on-week.


Stockport


In Stockport, there were 514 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 25, which is 259 fewer than the previous 7 days. Stockport has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Stockport is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 34 percent.


Tameside

In Tameside, the number of cases is down by 25 percent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 144.0 cases per 100,000 population. There were 327 positive Covid-19 tests in Tameside in the week ending April 25, which was 111 fewer than the previous 7 days.


Trafford

In Trafford, the latest infection rate is 163.3 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 34 percent.

A total of 388 people tested positive for Covid in Trafford over the seven days ending on April 25, which is 203 fewer than the week before.


Bolton

There was a fall of 21 percent in cases in Bolton over the week ending April 25, and the infection rate is now 145.0 cases per 100,000 population.

Bolton recorded 418 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 114 fewer than the previous week.
