Coronavirus infection rates, cases and deaths for Glasgow and surrounding areas on Tuesday September 29

Coronavirus cases in Scotland have soared by 806 over overnight.

It is the highest daily jump in positive tests the country has seen since the pandemic hit, with Saturday's figure of 714 being the previous record.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the new cases included "quite a high number of results from samples that were actually taken on Friday and Saturday that we might have expected to see reported yesterday''.

The number makes up 11.5% of newly tested people.

302 of the cases occurred in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board area and 91 in Lanarkshire.

No new deaths have been recorded in the previous 24 hours, with the toll remaining at 2512.

123 people were in hospital yesterday with a confirmed COVID -19 test - one more than yesterday and 14 are in intensive care, down by two.
