Coronavirus infection rates across 47 areas of Bristol remain above the UK average

Coronavirus infection rates for 47 neighbourhoods across Bristol remain higher than the UK average.

In the seven days up to last Saturday (August 7) there were 191,254 coronavirus infections across the United Kingdom, meaning there were 285.1 cases per 100,000 people.

Over the same time frame, on area of Bristol had an infection rate almost two-and-a-half times that of the UK average, while only eight areas were below the nationwide rate.

The highest rate in the city was in Bedminster, where the infection rate was 723.7, up from the week before, with 12 new positive tests in just a week.

Previously, St Paul's had held the top spot in Bristol but has only seen five new coronavirus cases in the previous seven days, giving an infection rate of 690.6, slightly up from the week before.

Clifton Village (666.4), Lower Easton (632.3), and Brislington (593.1) make up the top five places in Bristol for coronavirus infections.

The lowest infection rate across Bristol was in Henleaze, where there are now around 186.3 cases per 100,000 people.

The second lowest was in Stoke Bishop, where there was in infection rate of 203.5. Both areas saw a decrease in infections over the week.

Highridge (280.8), Broom Hill (275.7), Withywood (254.7), Southmead (250.5), Westbury Village (230.3), and Stapleton (225.1), were all below the UK average.

Across the United Kingdom there were 5,875 patients in hospital with coronavirus as of Thursday, with 882 of those on ventilators.

A total of 130,801 people have now died having tested positive for coronavirus while 154,202 people have Covid-19 listed on their death certificates.

Overall infections now sit at 6,211,868 since the start of the pandemic.
