Coronavirus infection rate for your area as Scotland enters third day of lockdown

The Scottish Government has published coronavirus infection rates for each local authority area across the country.

Weekly data released by Public Health Scotland shows the seven-day positive rate per 100,000 population for the week between December 28 and January 3 across the country was 290.8.

A total of 15,877 positive cases were reported in Scotland during this period - which represents 11.9% of people tested for the virus.

Inverclyde had the highest rate of coronavirus prevalence during this period, with a seven-day infection rate of 581.0 per 100,000.

The Orkney Islands had the lowest with 4.5.

Latest figures don't take the potential impact new lockdown restrictions could have, as they were imposed by the Scottish Government on January 5.

Scots have now entered into the third day of the stay at home restrictions.

Concerns have been raised over a more-transmissible strain of the virus, which was accountable for around 50% of new overnight cases announced on Tuesday.

Nicola Sturgeon said the NHS “will come under more severe pressure” as a result of the new variant.
