Coronavirus infected healthcare worker dies in the Republic

A frontline healthcare worker has died in the Republic of Ireland after contracting Coronavirus.

Taioseach Leo Varadkar said they were one of three people who passed in the last 24 hours after testing positive for the disease.

Mr Varadkar expressed his condolences to their family during his latest update in the fight against Covid-19.

He also told everyone in the south that they must stay home for two weeks as of midnight tonight and that all public and private gatherings are now banned.

Citizens have also been limited to journeys within 2km of their home.

The Republic of Ireland has lost 22 people who contracted the virus but the Taoiseach said he fears that ICU units could be at full capacity "in a number of days".

Northern Ireland has suffered 13 deaths, while 275 are now confirmed to have the disease.
