What time is Nicola Sturgeon briefing today: First Minister to review lockdown measures in speech

Nicola Sturgeon will address the nation today to review and confirm any changes that we might see to the current lockdown measures.

The First Minister will have to decide if she plans to go ahead with indicative dates she has set out which would affect everything from driving lessons to live events.

Scotland still has a number of 'clustered' outbreaks across the country which may affect Nicola Sturgeon's decision making on letting certain indicative dates go ahead.

Yesterday, the First Minister confirmed that Aberdeen will remain in lockdown and bars and restaurants closed in the region due to an ongoing coronavirus 'cluster.'

Nicola Sturgeon is to address changes to lockdown today at 12:20pm on Politics Scotland (BBC Scotland) in front of the Scottish Parliament.

Here are the changes she is likely to discuss:

Nicola Sturgeon will confirm if the following changes will go-ahead from the August 24:

  • Live events (outdoors) with physical distancing, enhanced hygiene and restricted numbers following relevant guidance
  • Organised outdoor contact sports can resume for all ages, following the guidance of relevant sports bodies
  • Snooker/ pool halls and indoor bowling facilities can re-open – following guidance.
  • Bingo halls can re-open with physical distancing and following guidance
  • Driving lessons can resume – following guidance
  • Amusement arcades and casinos can re-open following guidance including enhanced hygiene.
  • Funfairs - both static and travelling - can re-open subject to relevant guidance.

The First Minister may also address the issue of gyms and the leisure industry which she previously said may open on Monday, September 14.
