Coronavirus in Scotland: three new cases confirmed bringing total to six

Three new cases of coronavirus have reportedly been confirmed in Scotland, bringing the total to six.

As reported by Edinburgh Live, health secretary Jeane Freeman confirmed two new cases in Scotland on Wednesday.

The two patients who tested positive were said to be from the Grampian and Ayrshire areas.

However, it has been revealed this morning that a further three patients have tested positive for the virus - which has officially been named Covid-19.

The patients are from Forth Valley, Great Glasgow and Clyde and Grampian areas. They are said to be "clinically well" and receiving the appropriate care.

BBC Radio Scotland presenter Gary Robertson tweeted: "More on 3 new cases of Covid-19 in Scotland. The patients are currently clinically well and are receiving appropriate clinical care.

"The patients are from the Forth Valley, Greater Glasgow & Clyde and Grampian areas. All three new cases are contacts of known cases."

Close to a thousand people are believed to have been tested for the virus in Scotland so far.

The government previously confirmed that one of the patients had recently returned from northern Italy, while another patient had been in contact with a confirmed case of the virus.

Around 15 learners at Edinburgh College were also said to have been advised to self-isolate themselves yesterday after a student began showing signs of coronavirus.

Shoppers in Edinburgh have also begun "stockpiling" groceries and other items, including hand sanitiser, amid mounting fears over the coronavirus outbreak.
