Coronavirus in Scotland: Spike continues as 1,027 people test positive with 152 new cases in Lothian

In today's First Minister's Questions Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed that 1,027 people have tested positive for c oronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The number represents 13.5% of those newly tested yesterday and this takes the total figure of positive cases in Scotland to 35,787.

152 of the new cases were in the NHS Lothian area.

Five more coronavirus-related deaths have also been registered in the last 24 hours, taking the overall total to 2,538 deaths in Scotland.

The number of patients in hospital with coronavirus has increased by 58 overnight to a total of 377 - a figure that is more than double the number the First Minister reported before FMQs last week.

31 people are being treated in intensive care, up three from yesterday's figures.

The news comes as tighter lockdown restrictions for Scotland's hospitality sector come into place tomorrow, with all licensed premises in the central belt area set to close for 16 days from tomorrow at 6pm.
