Coronavirus in Scotland: Six new Covid-19 deaths as 1,009 cases recorded

Six people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours across Scotland.

The latest figures, released by the Scottish Government, bring the death to 2,550 since the start of the pandemic.

A total of 1,009 new cases of the virus have also been recorded in the same time period bringing the total to 38,042.

432 people are currently being treated in hospital with 34 in intensive care.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed four coronavirus cases have been detected (PA)

The alarming trend shows transmission of the virus is on the rise, with thousands of new cases now being reported each day.

It comes after pub bosses staged a protest last night against new coronavirus restrictions.

The hospitality workers dumped leftover ice outside the City Chambers in Glasgow and the parliament building in Edinburgh in a symbolic gesture about the new ‘draconian’ coronavirus measures.

Spokesman for the protest group is Graham Suttle, Managing Director of Kained Holdings.

The 41-year-old, who operates seven bars and restaurants, said: “The hospitality industry has always gone above and beyond guidelines to help keep our customers safe, and indeed support our communities, but we are awakening to the realisation we are continuing to be used as scapegoats and cash cows for a government which clearly does not understand the industry, the networks and the livelihoods involved.”
