NHS Ayrshire and Arran have also reported a further 72 cases of the virus.

No new deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours.

449 people are currently being treated in hospital with 35 in intensive care.

The local authority breakdowns show Firth Valley has 45 new cases, NHS Grampian have 39, Dumfries and Galloway have 37, Tayside have 36 and Fife have 32.

NHS Highland have reported 11 new cases while Borders have three and both NHS Western Isles and NHS Shetland have one new case each.

Across the Central Belt Scots had their first weekend of pub closures with all licensed venues shutting their doors for 16 days on Friday at 6pm.

Hospitality minister Fergus Ewing MSP told the BBC the restrictions were “absolutely necessary" and admitted they could continue until past the current earmarked end date of October 25.

He said: “The first minister had made it clear that she really wishes to avoid a further lockdown - as does, I believe, the leadership in the other parts of the United Kingdom.

"That is absolutely the case. But there can be no guarantees."
