Coronavirus in Scotland: Number of cases in Glasgow rises to 299 as Scottish total exceeds 1000

The number of positive coronavirus cases in Glasgow has risen by 41 overnight.

In Greater Glasgow and Clyde, a total of 299 cases have been confirmed, up from 258 cases yesterday.

Thirty-three deaths as a consequence of the virus in Scotland have now been recorded.

The latest figures, released by the Scottish Government this afternoon, state that a total of 12,273 tests have been conducted, with 1059 of them diagnosed as positive - an increase of 165. from yesterday.

The news comes after Scotland's Chief Medical Officer Dr Catherine Calderwood said this afternoon that the number of people infected with the virus is estimated to be around 65,000.

Around 72 of those who have tested positive are currently being treated in one of Scotland’s Intensive Care Units.
