Coronavirus in Scotland - Number of cases in Glasgow rises by 38 overnight

The number of positive coronavirus cases in Glasgow has risen by 38 overnight.

In Greater Glasgow and Clyde, a total of 221 cases have been confirmed, up from 183 cases yesterday.

Twenty-two deaths as a consequence of the virus in Scotland have now been recorded.

The latest figures, released by the Scottish Government this afternoon, state a total of 10,676 tests have been conducted, with 719 of them diagnosed as positive - up from 584 yesterday.

The news comes after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon warned of a 'rapid rise in coronavirus cases' in her daily briefing at the Scottish Government's headquarters this afternoon.

Ms Sturgeon said: "It is clear that we are now seeing a rapid rise of coronavirus in Scotland and we have seen evidence of community transmission".

The First Minister also thanked the NHS staff for working "incredibly hard and doing and an incredibly courageous job continuing to care so well for people suffering from the virus".
