Coronavirus in Scotland: Nicola Sturgeon announces new deaths as cases increase by 717 overnight

A further six deaths from coronavirus have been registered in Scotland since Sunday, Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

The First Minister made the announcement at the daily Scottish Government Covid-19 briefing, where an increase of 717 cases was also announced.

The figures represented 8.3 per cent of all those who were tested in the previous 24 hours.

The First Minister warned this increase in cases was lower than would have been expected.

It means Scotland has now recorded 82,011 cases since the pandemic began in March, whilst the death toll stands at 3,286.

101 of the cases were in the NHS Lothian region.

Across Scotland six further deaths were announced amongst people in Scotland who tested positive for the virus in the last 28 days.

It comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson is also forced into self-isolation after contact with a positive case.

Meanwhile, 1,227 patients are being treated in NHS hospitals for the virus - down on the previous day.

A total of 98 patients are unwell in intensive care units across the country, including in NHS Lothian hospitals. This is an decrease on yesterday.
