Coronavirus in Scotland: Glasgow testing capacity issue causes delays as hospital admissions rise to 703

A further 85 people have been admitted to hospital due to coronavirus overnight.

There are now 703 people in hospital across Scotland, with a further 62 patients in intensive care.

No new deaths have been reported but Register Office are generally closed at weekends.

An issue with testing capacity at a Glasgow centre has meant that the number of positive cases recorded today is inaccurate.

A total of 316 new cases have been confirmed, but the actual figure is likely to be much higher. As a result, positive cases will be higher than expected on Monday and Tuesday.

The Scottish Government has said that around 64,000 tests have had to be rerouted to other testing sites due to a capacity issue with the UK Government Lighthouse facility in Glasgow.

A statement adds: "The Scottish Government is urgently trying to establish with the UK Government what exactly is causing the delay in testing but this is mainly due to demand from out with Scotland.

"We continue to reroute routine testing of care home staff through NHS Scotland testing facilities to ensure prompt turnaround times."

The death toll to coronavirus in Scotland currently stands at 2,609 with 46,716 positive cases confirmed throughout the pandemic.
