Coronavirus in Scotland: Further eight dead as positive cases rise to 1059 overnight

A further eight people have died from coronavirus in Scotland – bringing the death toll to 33.

The total number of confirmed cases in the country has reached 1059 as of this afternoon, with 165 tests coming back positive in the last 24 hours, according to the Scottish Government.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon revealed the figures this afternoon at her daily press conference.

She extended her ‘sincere condolences’ to the families of those who have died.

There are 72 patients currently in intensive care units with Covid-19.

Sturgeon reiterated that people must stay indoors and comply with 'lockdown measure'.

She said: "It is viral we must stick with this."
