Coronavirus in Scotland: Edinburgh map reveals Covid hotspots as cases spike in neighbourhoods

A chart has revealed the latest coronavirus hotspots in the capital, with some areas seeing a spike in cases.

Based on data from Public Health Scotland, the number of cases in each area is charted over a seven-day period.

The latest figures are based on new infections recorded between 5 November and 11 November.

Old Town, Princes Street and Leith Street had the highest tally, with 19 new positive cases within a week.

Meanwhile, Currie West saw cases spike by 16, while Gracemount, Southhouse and Birdiehouse had 14 new infections in the seven-day period and Newington had 13.

Elsewhere, Corstorphine, Deans Village, Tollcross, Gilmerton and the Calton Hill area all saw ten new cases.

However, other areas faired much better with the likes of Dalmeny, Kirkliston and Newbridge, Portobello and Granton West recording low numbers of new cases.

Meanwhile, five neighbourhoods in the Scottish capital recorded zero new cases. These were: Colinton and Kingsknowe, Cramond, Murrayfield and Ravelston and Craigentinny, Mortonhall and Anwickhill.

It comes as Scotland's latest coronavirus figures showed a slight decrease in new cases across the country, though the number of deaths remains tragically high.

There were a further 1,118 new infections reported in the last 24 hours, with 36 further deaths registered.
