Coronavirus in Scotland: Confirmed Glasgow cases rise to over 1000 as Scottish figure jumps to 4229

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Glasgow has now surpassed 1000.

In Greater Glasgow and Clyde, a total of 1094 cases have been confirmed, up from 984 cases yesterday.

296 deaths have been recorded as a consequence of the virus in Scotland.

The latest figures, released by the Scottish Government this afternoon, state that a total of 20,793 tests have been conducted, with 4,229 of them diagnosed as positive - an increase of 268 from yesterday.

The news comes after Chief Nursing Officer Fiona McQueen said that the NHS Louisa Jordan temporary hospital at the SEC "is beginning to take shape".

She said workers have been “working 24 hours a day, working tirelessly to provide what we hope is a hospital that we may never need".

The Chief Nursing Officer also confirmed that 2,000 3rd and 4th year student nurses have been deployed to help with the coronavirus crisis.

She said: “We have had amazing response from 3rd and 4th year students that have offered to step up,” adding it was a “real thrill to see their compassionate care and professionalism”.
