Coronavirus in Scotland: confirmed Glasgow cases rise by 97 to 779 as Scottish figure jumps to 3,001

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Glasgow has risen by 97 to 779.

In Scotland, the death toll has increased by 46 to 172.

As of 9am this morning, there are 3,001 positive cases - an increase of 399 from the 2,602 reported yesterday.

It comes after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Scotland’s Chief Medical Officer dispelled reports that a coronavirus peak is imminent in the next few weeks.

Sturgeon said at today’s daily press briefing that she didn’t want to fuel “false expectations” among the Scottish public.

The announcement follows reports in the media that a coronavirus peak could arrive in the next few weeks, bringing a potentially quicker end to lockdown.
