A total of 956 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours across Scotland.

The Scottish Government has released the latest figures which shows the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in March is 38,998.

Over the last day no one in Scotland has died after returning a positive test - meaning the death toll remains at 2,550.

449 people are currently being treated in hospital with 35 in intensive care.

Despite there being no deaths over the last 24 hours the Scottish Government has noted that Register Offices are generally closed at weekends.

The latest figures come after it was revealed seven residents died at Covid-hit Redhill Care Home in West Lothian.

The home, run by HC-One, had 53 positive cases earlier this week.

A crisis team was set up when the outbreak was initially identified and the home was closed to visitors.

Across the Central Belt Scots had their first weekend of pub closures with all licensed venues shutting their doors for 16 days on Friday at 6pm.

The five health board areas where tighter restrictions have been imposed are Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and Arran, Lothian and Forth Valley.

We told how defiant crowds travelled from central belt hotspot areas to beer gardens in places such as Helensburgh in Argyll.
