Coronavirus in Scotland: 93 more deaths and 199 new hospital admissions overnight

A further 93 coronavirus deaths have been registered in Scotland, bringing the country's death toll to 4,965.

Another 1,865 positive cases have been recorded, representing 8.7% of the tests undertaken.

199 more people have been admitted to hospital, bringing the total currently being treated to 1,596 with a further 109 in intensive care - 12 more than Friday.

Of the new tests, 487 were registered in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde healthboard and another 305 in Lanarkshire.

The shocking new figures come as the country braces itself to see the impact of easing restrictions over Christmas.

National clinical director Jason Leitch said: "It’s going to get worse over the next little while potentially before it gets better — 2,300 cases today, 2,300-odd cases tomorrow, in ten days’ time that will be hospitalisations.

“In two to three weeks’ time that will unfortunately show in the mortality figures."
