Coronavirus in Scotland: 83 new positive cases confirmed as no deaths registered

83 new positive coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Scotland over the past 24 hours.

16 of the new cases occurred in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, bringing the total number in the area to 5,210.

No deaths have been recorded in Scotland in the past 24 hours.

245 people are in hospital with confirmed Covid-19, with 142 of these in the Greater Glasgow area.

Meanwhile, two people remain in intensive care with a confirmed case of the virus.

It comes after yesterday saw the biggest daily increase in cases in three months, with 123 positive tests. The majority of these (78) have been recorded in Tayside where there is an outbreak being investigated at the 2 Sisters food processing plant in Coupar Angus.

Yesterday, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde confirmed that contact tracing has also been rolled out at John Paul Academy in Glasgow by a coronavirus Test and Protect team. However, at this time there is no evidence of transmission within the school itself.

Meanwhile, Woodend Pub in Mount Vernon confirmed on social media that they had closed after being informed that a customer who visited the venue has tested positive for coronavirus.
