Coronavirus in Scotland: 50 new cases and no new deaths reported

Nicola Sturgeon confirmed a further 50 cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed since Tuesday.

The First Minister confirmed the figures at today's coronavirus daily briefing, taking the total number of cases in Scotland overall to 19,457.

However, Wednesday's new cases represent 0.9 per cent of people who were tested for the virus on Monday.

There are also currently 248 people in hospital with the virus and two people are now being treated in intensive care.

The numbers were released as Nicola Sturgeon confirmed that no-one in Scotland who has tested positive for coronavirus has died in over a month.

However, the First Minister has also confirmed one additional death from coronavirus that was registered on April 28 but had not been added on to the official figures until now, taking the Scottish total to 2492.

Out of the 50 cases reported, it was confirmed that 15 of these were in the Grampian area, 10 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 12 in Tayside and three in Lanarkshire.
