Coronavirus in Scotland: 44 new cases identified with only one patient in ICU

44 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded across Scotland overnight.

The new figures were announced by Nicola Sturgeon as clusters have continued to grow in the Tayside area.

As reported, the 44 new cases represent 0.8 per cent of those tested in Scotland on Monday.

Tuesday's briefing also confirmed that 243 people are in hospital with the virus, with one patient being treated in an intensive care unit.

There continues to be no new deaths recorded, with the figure still sitting at 2492.

Out of todays new cases, seven were confirmed to have been in NHS Tayside as the health board monitors the cluster caused by the outbreak at the 2 Sisters plant in Coupar Angus.

A total of 152 cases of coronavirus have now been linked to that cluster.

134 of those cases were workers, with 18 found to be contacts of those people.

On Monday, the First Minister confirmed that testing centres across Scotland had seen "exceptional demand" due to the return of schools as well as a selection of local clusters.
