33 more people have died in Scotland in the past 24 hours after testing positive for coronavirus, the latest government figures have confirmed.

This means that 3,950 people have now died in Scotland who have positive for the virus since the start of the pandemic.

692 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported since yesterday across the country, meaning that the total number of people who have tested positive for the virus to date has risen to 101,475.

Of the new cases in the past 24 hours, 189 were reported in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area and 90 in Lanarkshire in the past 24 hours.

983 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed Covid-19, an increase of nine since yesterday, with 57 people in intensive care - two fewer than yesterday.

The news comes as the first doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine have been given in Scotland to those who will be carrying out the vaccination programme.
