Coronavirus in Scotland: 267 new cases reported overnight with 45 in the Lothians

In the last 24 hours a total of 267 new coronavirus cases have been identified in Scotland.

Nicola Sturgeon reported the latest figures at the daily briefing on Wednesday where she warned that "cases are rising".

The new cases represent 3.6 per cent of Scots tested across the country on Tuesday (September 15).

Out of the new reports, 45 of the cases are in the Lothians region, with 105 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde and 40 in Lanarkshire.

On Tuesday, the First Minister also confirmed Edinburgh and the Lothians are "under review" after reaching third place on the table for new cases.

However, no specific restrictions have been placed on the area, with Glasgow and Lanarkshire to continue under stricter guidance.

This is the second day the Scottish Government have reported hospital admissions under a new system designed to give a more "accurate" picture of those being treated for the virus specifically.

Today a total of 51 were stated to be in hospital for coronavirus, with 6 of those being treated in an intensive care unit.

The First Minister also confirmed that one new death has been registered from the virus.
