Coronavirus in Scotland: 24 more deaths recorded in past 24 hours as cases rise by 1,101

24 more people have died in Scotland in the past 24 hours after testing positive for coronavirus, the latest figures released by the Scottish Government have confirmed.

1,101 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported since yesterday across the country, meaning that the total number of people who have tested positive for the virus has risen to 63,913.

Of the new cases in the past 24 hours, 374 were reported in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, 317 in Lanarkshire, 84 in Ayrshire and 121 in Lothian in the past 24 hours.

1,149 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed Covid-19, a decrease of 25 since yesterday, with 80 people in intensive care - an decrease of 3 since yesterday.

The latest figures come as Nicola Sturgeon urged the Scottish public not to "twist" new coronavirus regulations when they come into force on Monday.

Ms Sturgeon said if people applied their own interpretation of the rules then they "simply won't work".
