Coronavirus in Scotland: 19 covid deaths and 466 new cases reported in past 24 hours

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed the latest round of new covid statistics in Scotland.

A total of 466 new cases of Covid have been reported in the past 24 hours. That is 3.3% of total number of people tested.

Sadly, there have been 19 new reported deaths of people who have tested positive.

50 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19, and 614 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19.

1,789,377 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 123,686 have received their second dose.

Ms Sturgeon added that this weekend will see the one-year anniversary of the first Covid death in Scotland.

There are plans being constructed for longer-term remembrance, but it is thought there will be a national silence to mark those who have died from Covid on the 23rd of March.

Ms Sturgeon added there has been a dip in vaccine numbers currently due to lack of supply, but this is thought to be rectified later this month.

Everyone over 50, all unpaid carers and adults with an underlying health condition are to be invited for a vaccine by the end of April - and the programme is still on track to meet that target.
