Coronavirus in Scotland: 176 new cases confirmed as three new deaths reported

A total of 176 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Scotland over the last 24 hours.

Tuesday's figures have continued to see the number of new positive cases soar after 208 were reported on Sunday in just one day, the highest daily figure since May.

The 176 new cases represent 2.3 per cent of those tested on Monday.

The First Minister announced the latest news at the coronavirus daily briefing, at which she also confirmed three new deaths.

This is the first time Scotland has reported three deaths in a day since June 30.

Of the new cases, 91 were announced to be in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde region, which is currently in a partial lockdown.

32 cases were also reported to be in Lanarkshire, with 16 in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

As of yesterday (September 7), there were 267 patients being treated for the virus in hospital, a rise of 11 from yesterday.

At present, six of those patients are currently in an intensive care unit.
