Coronavirus in Scotland: 1231 die from virus as confirmed cases hit 10,051

A total of 1,231 people have now died of coronavirus in Scotland – an increase of 47 deaths from Friday.

The number of positive confirmed cases of Covid-19 have risen to 10,051, which is up by 354.

There are 131 Scots with coronavirus currently in intensive care units and confirmed or suspected cases in hospital are now 1,748.

The latest stats were provided by the Scottish Government this afternoon.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon yesterday stressed how Scots would have to get used to a 'new normal' amid the pandemic.

Writing exclusively in the Daily Record Sturgeon said she wants to start a grown-up conversation about how to lift the lockdown in Scotland.

She wrote: "Today I am seeking to start a grown-up conversation with the public about the complex decisions that lie ahead of us as we consider life after lockdown.

"The emergence of the Covid-19 virus is the biggest global challenge humanity has faced for generations.

"The pandemic is a health crisis, a social crisis and an economic crisis that is causing harm across the world on an unprecedented scale.

"The impact of coronavirus on Scotland has been no less profound.

"No individual, community or business has been untouched and for many of you, that has meant real hardship.

"But the response from the Scottish people has been equally profound.”
