Coronavirus in Scotland: 12 more die from virus as death toll hits 1,571

A total of 1,571 people have now died of coronavirus in Scotland’s hospitals, an increase of 12 deaths from Saturday.

The number of positive confirmed cases of Covid-19 have risen to 12,097 which is an increase of 170.

Latest figures also show that 99 Scots who currently have confirmed or suspected coronavirus are in intensive care - a decrease in nine.

The number of people currently being treated for confirmed or suspected cases now stands at 1,666 which is decrease of eight.

The Scottish Government confirmed the figures online on Sunday, May 3.

The figures follow an announcement from the Scottish Ambulance Service revealing a west coast paramedic has tragically died from Covid-19.

The staff member sadly passed away in hospital on Saturday.

Pauline Howie, Chief Executive of the Scottish Ambulance Service, said: “On behalf of everyone at SAS, I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the family.

"Our focus will be on supporting them during this very difficult time.”
