Coronavirus in Kenya as first Covid-19 case confirmed

Kenya has confirmed its first case of the new coronavirus .

Reuters say the Minister of Health Mutahi Kagwe confirmed the news on Friday.

The patient, who was diagnosed with covid 19 last night had travelled back to Kenya from the United States via London, Kagwe told a news conference.

The news comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global pandemic on Wednesday.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the patient is a female student who travelled in from the United States via London.

According to Capital FM Kagwe said the patient was in a stable condition.

She is being treated at the Infectious Diseases Unit at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

The ministry said it has contacted other people who were in the same flight with the quarantined patient for testing.

As reported in our live coronavirus blog The Premier League is holding an emergency meeting today as the coronavirus crisis deepens.

A number of options are believed to be being considered after Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta tested positive for the virus, with a number of other players and clubs also affected.

In a press conference yesterday Boris Johnson declared the pandemic the 'worst public health crisis in a generation'.

The UK formally moved from the 'containment' phase to the 'delay' phase but schools are to stay open for now.
