Coronavirus in Glasgow - charting coronavirus cases in our city over the past six months

As of midnight on Tuesday, new lockdown rules have been implemented in Glasgow as the Scottish Government responds to a growing number of positive coronavirus cases in the region.

During First Minister's Questions in the Scottish Parliament on (Wednesday), Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the total number of positive cases in the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde area had grown to 5,583, a further increase of 86 in the past 24 hours. 53 more cases have been recorded since.

At its peak, Greater Glasgow was seeing triple figure totals of covid-19 within single 24 hour periods, back in April and May.

In contrast, in June and July, there were days in which no new coronavirus cases were recorded.

In the first two days of September, there were already more recorded daily instances of covid in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area than in the whole of July.

Here, we break down the daily figures since the first reported case in March and chart the rise, fall and rise again of coronavirus in the region over the past six months.
