Coronavirus in Edinburgh: New drive-thru COVID-19 testing facility launches at Edinburgh Airport

A new facility to test NHS staff and keyworkers for coronavirus has been set up at Edinburgh Airport.

NHS staff who may have been exposed to COVID-19 on the frontline will be the first people allowed to use the testing facility.

Keyworkers who attend Edinburgh Airport will be given a PCR swab which should provide a result within 48 hours.

The Edinburgh Airport facility was launched alongside Sodexo, in partnership with Boots medical staff who will help to administer tests.

Key workers who receive a negative test will be told to come back 48 hours later to ensure the test is accurate.

Sean Haley from Sodexo said: "The opening of the Edinburgh Airport testing site will mean more front-line NHS and other staff can be tested and cleared to provide care to those who need it most."

Scottish Secretary Alister Jack said: “This new testing centre at Edinburgh Airport, which is funded by the UK Government, will help key workers continue to do their lifesaving work and look after those who need it most.

“The UK Government has committed to expand our testing capacity right across the UK and this new centre is now one of three in Scotland. We will continue to work for everyone in the UK to save lives and protect our NHS.”
