Coronavirus in Edinburgh: Dominion Cinema in Morningside say they are ready to reopen in July

A popular cinema in the Morningside area of Edinburgh is planning to reopen its doors in July.

Unlike other mainstream cinemas, The Dominion Cinema features comfy couches and recliners, rather than rows of seats.

According to the BBC, the owner of the cinema has been busy putting further social distancing measures in place and believes the cinema would be safe to reopen in July.

The Dominion is the oldest cinema in the whole of Scotland and it is incredibly popular with Edinburgh locals.

Cinema owner Alastair Cameron has told the BBC that they have "battened down the hatches" in order to survive the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus lockdown.

Tha family-run cinema has had to furlough fourteen members of staff since the pandemic began.

After making changes to the layout of the cinema, the owner is optimistic that it would be safe for customers if it were to allowed back open in July.

The cinemas have reportedly introduced a number of social distancing measures - including opening up the fire doors and creating a six-foot distance between all seats.

While Prime Minister Boris Johnson has set out the 4 July as a possible date for cinemas reopening in England, the Scottish Government has not yet discussed a timeline.

The Scottish Government has advised reopening cinemas would be "guided by public health evidence that says it is safe to do so".
