Coronavirus in Edinburgh: City Council close Cramond footpath as group fined for breaking lockdown rules

Edinburgh City Council has made the decision to temporarily close down Cramond footpath for the duration of the coronavirus pandemic.

It comes after Edinburgh Live reported how a group of four people received fines from Police Scotland after getting stuck on Cramond Island on Saturday.

Three men, aged 26, 31 and 32 were fined alongside a 28-year old women after venturing out to the island despite the lockdown.

In a post, Edinburgh City Council said: "We’ve closed access to Cramond Island for the safety of the public and would urge everyone to follow government advice when exercising for the rest of Easter weekend."

On Saturday Police Scotland were called out to Cramond alongside an RNLI lifeboat and coastguard.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 3pm on Saturday, 11 April police received a report of concern for people who were stuck on Cramond Island, Edinburgh.

"Three men, aged 26, 31 and 32, and a 28-year-old woman were issued with fixed penalty notices under the Coronavirus Act 2020.

"Police attended the incident along with colleagues from the coastguard and RNLI."
